„Crimea is Ukraine, Donbas is Ukraine, Kyiv is Ukraine,” Moldovan President Maia Sandu said in a historic speech to the European Parliament on Wednesday, calling on EU countries to support her country’s European aspirations.
In the context of the war, the Republic of Moldova submitted a formal application for EU membership in March this year. In this regard, President Sandu also emphasized the firm belief that his country is part of the European Community.
„We are aware that political decisions need to be made at EU level. We are also aware that these decisions are not simple. But granting Moldova candidate status is the right decision. Our place is in the European Union,” she said.
On an official visit to Brussels, Maia Sandu has already met with European Council President Charles Michel, as well as with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium Alexander De Croo. On Thursday, President Maia Sandu will meet in Paris with Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.
